THE RIGHT TO NO OPINION

“You always own the option of having no opinion. There is never any need to get worked up or to trouble your soul about things you can’t control. These things are not asking to be judged by you. Leave them alone.”-Marcus Aurelius (Roman Emperor, 170 A.D.) YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT! We’ve all…

God makes trees, not tables.

All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.- John 1:3 I heard TD Jakes make this statement the other day and it made me smile. I love the fact that God allows you and I to use creativity, even though we cannot truly create anything. Everything…

Fact #3 and #4

History’s Mystery  Week 4 “I am going to use 4 historical facts so strongly attested historically that nearly every scholar that studies the subject agrees, even the skeptical ones” Fact 1: Jesus lived  (not a myth)  and died by Crucifixion. Fact 2: Jesus’ disciples believed he rose from the dead and appeared to them. They…

In light of the gospel…

We have a tendency to move from simple to complex.  Our government exemplifies this.    Our relationships exemplify this.  Even our religion exemplifies this. I believe that most of us have misunderstood the very purpose of Jesus because of our tendency to overcomplicate issues.  We rebel against simplicity.  Our lives are supposed to get bigger…

A Thought about Interpreting the Bible

I’ve been reading several books lately, including Alister McGrath’s book, “Christianity’s Dangerous Idea“. This is a book that traces the historical and cultural trends that influenced and were influenced by the Protestant Reformation. The Reformation still affects almost every strand of our culture today.  Ideas that are considered normal today would not have been thought 1000 years…

Dark vs Light

At the coffee shop this morning, I overheard three gentlemen talking about dark vs. light. One of them made the case that the world is simply dark vs. light. Most of the bad things that occur and make news happen when people think they are in the dark. They think they will never be exposed….

A new kind of quiet- SCHOOL is Back!

I love it when my kids go back to school because I see them taking a huge step forward into their future. I see them make new friends and take on new responsibilities. I know that they are learning how to function around people they may not like or that may not like them. It…

10 Years Old!

My oldest son turned 10 years old.  We celebrated by making him wear a chicken hat and dance.  I think this has hit Erica and I hard and has made us more determined to be even more intentional in shaping him over the next 10 years.  He is an awesome kid.

Our first Community Partner

Now that we are moved into our new location, we have begun to think beyond our own walls at Connection Point Church.  Our goal at CPC is to become a valuable church in our community.  Today, Joey and I met with the Child Advocacy Center of Plano to establish our first “COMMUNITY PARTNER”.  A Community…

What movie are you livin’?

Here is our second sermon from the series, “Unleash!”.  This might be my favorite sermon that I’ve ever preached.  (I’m not saying it was actually preached the best, but the content is very helpful, in my opinion) 2.17 from Connection Point Church on Vimeo.

How to fix your financial problems and avoid the financial cliff.

I read through the Bible every year.  Actually, it usually takes me a little longer than a year because I try not to worry on days I can’t read a lot, so that it doesn’t become stale or legalistic.  Anywhoo, I always get am fascinated when I read about the Year of Jubilee.  In fact,…

10 Things that excite me about 2013

The new year is probably my favorite time of year.  It comes right after Christmas and is pregnant with hope.  Here are 10 things off the top of my head that I am excited about… 10. Our upgraded systems at CPC.  This may sound lame, but it is probably what I am most excited about…

This Year vs. Last Year

When we look at this year, we can definitely see that we have a downward trend for the year.  It is interesting because our actual attendance in our worship services has not been as dramatic as the overall dip.   As my last post shows, a large portion of our dip has been due to…

What has changed?

The most noticeable differences between this year and last is our drop in average attendance. I believe there are two main reasons this has happened this year. One was beyond my control and the other was based on a decision I made. #1: The biggest factor was the transition in the youth ministry. This is…

What we’ve learned about giving

One of the most incredible things that I’ve learned this year is that our church is extremely generous.  In fact, I’ve learned that if I will simply take the time to teach what the Bible says about money, most people will obey God.  In the past, I taught once a year on tithing and apologized…
